Approval Matrix
Dammit. I'm a huge fan of NY Mag's Approval Matrix, and was planning on turning the concept into an interactive app, but they did it first: The DIY Approval Matrix.

It's great in theory, but in practice, the collaborative nature of it causes each item to cluster around the middle. There's some great statement there, about how online collaboration flattens the all culture, from brilliant to lowbrow, into one box of middlebrow and mediocre, but I'm on a bunch of allergy medicine and not coherent enough to make it.
