The referent and the parodic simulacra on the same screen would have caused the universe to fold in on itself. So, by pulling the link, they actually saved the world.

Ya know, that's actually something that amazes me: I don't think people realize just how strange the Colbert Report is. There's a guy who does an in-character impersonation of a cable tv pundit almost every week day.
