Newmark New Media

Craig Newmark gives Berkeley a faculty chair in new media studies and Denton says "this is akin to the creation of a reservation for American Indians; it doesn't erase the stain of genocide." (Which makes Gawker something like Sacagawea in this comparison.)

See, that's a quality analogy. If it were me, I totally would have gone with "this is akin to an unconditional apology for slavery without a broad, egalitarian compensation program". But this - this is much better. I guess this is why Denton gets the big bucks.

I need a "because" followed by an explanation. Because as it is, the analogy just has me scratching my head. I don't even know if Craig is Andrew Jackson or Sitting Bull. Please help.
