Twitter Challenge

I issued a challenge on Twitter last night: The theme song to The Daily Show is "Dog on Fire," a They Might Be Giants cover of a Bob Mould song. I'll give $5 to the first person to find an mp3 of the original. If it helps the search, Mould's version was used as the theme back when Kilborn did the show. (I have the cover version -- if you want it, I put it here.) Update: Haughey found it! And he didn't even use filesharing! Update #2: Someone in the comments finds an interview snippet from Bob Mould saying the song would have been on his 1996 eponymous album had The Daily Show not used it.

And another tip, from this month's Spin interview with Mould: "I was friends with Lizz Winstead, who co-created the show back in Minneapolis. That was one of the two songs I wrote for the 'hubcap' album [1996's Bob Mould], and that's the one she chose."

Except the song isn't actually on the album...

(Btw, this let's me reference how EVERYTHING leads back to Minneapolis, including The Daily Show.)

I can't tell if this is the right one or not, but I think it is. At least, I don't think it is the current version. Also, I'm too cheap to spend the 89 cents to find out. It will cut into my 5 dollar profit margin.

Sorry dude, Haughey got there first.

(I'm stunned that after all my searching on filesharing apps, it actually exists ON AMAZON AND YAHOO of all goddamn places.)

re: the song not appearing on the album....

last night i was searching for the song after your twitter challenge and came across this morsel which is from an 05 interview where he says the song would have been on the album if the daily show hadn't used it.
