Exile in Guyville

In one of the most questionable reviews I've ever read, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Exile in Guyville, Pitchfork basically says Liz Phair was invented by dudes, for dudes.

To be fair, I didn't say the album was recorded for dudes - I wanted to take the perspective of how a guy (which I am) would hear it, and specifically, a guy who wasn't just listening it to jerk off to "Flower." As for "by dudes," I agree the language is touchy, in terms of the roles men played in her making the album. But I left the credit for writing and performing and co-producing all the actual music squarely in her hands.
