This is surprising and also good news from the music industry: Avril Lavigne has made over $2 million this year off YouTube due to the ads on the video for "Girlfriend". Update from the comments: there's no check written yet.
Yeah, but her video is the most viewed YouTube video of all time, so this isn't exactly a business model to bank on.

You should read this article in Silicon Alley Insider to get a longer explanation on what dean wermer was talking about. Still, I would think that youtube should eventually become a pretty good source of income for the music biz. It is just going to take time. I think it all has to be with how well the music biz can change their business model.
