WSJ uses two Metallica tracks for a visualization that illustrates how the volume has been ramped up on CDs over the past decade. (And we already know Death Magnetic sounds better on Guitar Hero.) Also interesting, the Metallica tracks in Guitar Hero III haven't had all the dynamic range squashed out of them - at least according to this audio engineer:
