I learned more Latin figuring out how to translate Catullus than I did in the studying it formally. The Greek Comedies are also worth their weight in gold, particularly Aristophanes. For example, Lysistrata.

Catullus was super dirty - this was one of our translation assignments in my latin classes. At least the professor knew how to make her students do their homework.
