East Coast Bound

I can finally mention this publicly: I'm moving to NYC next month, working on some new projects. Hush-hush, shh-shh, see ya there. (In the comments, kottke turns this into a Valleywag post. Feel free to write your own press releases inside.)

Let's Valleywag-ify this: "Rex Sorgatz allegedly got shitcanned by MSNBC for buying Newsvine for a reported $98 million. He's fleeing to technology-tone-deaf New York City because he couldn't stand the shame."

Not sure I got enough weasel words and misinformation in there to make it plausible enough for VW, but it's a start.

According to unnamed sources, Rex Sergotz is leaving msnbc.com to start a new web based media portal in the emerging space of tag cloud aggregation cupcake vloggers. Plans include a commoditized Facebook widget strategy with potential Zoho integration (still alpha). Current valuation is set at $30 million after angel investments and initial venture capital funding from some of Silicon Alley's biggest players.

(Tomorrow's story) Rex Sorgatz apologized for a staged blog entry, where commenters turned out to be MSNBC staffers, after the Washington Post exposed the fraud.

Julia Allison, look out! Fellow blog-kitten Rex Sorgatz...

I am moving for one reason, and one reason only: Julia Allison, you will be mine.

I'll Safran it (who better?):

Realizing that no good can come from any kind of networks, Rex Sorgatz is finally making a move we can agree upon. Hopefully this will end his bizarre dependency on revenue sharing deals with his employers. As my colleague Terry Heaton writes...
