The Last Days of the Polymath. The premise is true, right?

The piece talks a lot about the relationship between polymaths and specialists. I think this is the absolute crux of the matter. It's not that we've witnessed the fall of the polymath; rather, we've witnessed the rise of the specialist. So to the degree you can work in many domains, and either a) convince specialists to cut you some slack or b) ignore them, you can still be a polymath, sez I.
