Excuse the design wonkery, but msnbc.com's new story pages are amazingly ambitious.
Srsly... I dig the experiments they're trying too. The scroll bar directory, the scroll up "shelf" etc. Thx for the pointer.

I think they are horrible.
Too large, too much clutter, having to hit "show more text" is just terrible, terrible, terrible (did I say terrible?) design.
Just give me the story, please.
But no worries, I use this to fix it all and repair most defective websites like this.
Really shows the disconnect between the desires of designers and the needs of users.
